Useful for: Investigating possible disorders of mitochondrial metabolism, particularly when used in conjunction with CSF lactate.

As quickly as possible after collection of CSF, add 1 mL CSF to chilled collection tube containing 2 mL 8% (W/V) per- chloric acid.
Mix well for 30 seconds and place in an ice bath for 10 minutes.
Centrifuge for 10 minutes at 1500 x g.
Decant supernatant into a transport tube and freeze.
