Processing Details:
Useful for the investigation of primary aldosteronism (eg, adrenal adenoma/carcinoma and adrenal cortical hyperplasia) and secondary aldosteronism (renovascular disease, salt depletion, potassium loading, cardiac failure with ascites, pregnancy, Bartter syndrome)

Patient preparation
Spironolactone (Aldactone) should be discontinued for 4 to 6 weeks before testing.

Add 25 mL 50% acetic acid at start of collection. Use 15 mL of 50% acetic acid for pediatric patients < 5 years old. Preservative is intended to achieve a pH of 2.0 - 4.0.
Record total volume of urineand preservative used on aliquot bottle.
Alternate acceptable preservatives
Aldosterone with Sodium is Mayo test ALDNA.
