Allina Health cancer researcher earns national honor
MINNEAPOLIS 04/30/2014--Karen K. Swenson, RN PhD AOCN®, manager and scientific advisor for the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute, part of Allina Health, will receive the 2014 Rose Mary Carroll-Johnson ONS Distinguished Award for Consistent Contribution to Nursing Literature during the Oncology Nursing Society’s Annual Congress May 1 in Anaheim, Calif.
"This award has special meaning to me because I was honored to be able to work with Rose Mary Carroll-Johnson on the editorial board of the Oncology Nursing Forum. Her leadership and work ethic were amazing and inspired me to give back to the oncology nursing community through mentorship and publications," said Swenson.
Swenson's oncology nursing research has been widely published. Also, she is currently a reviewer for Nursing Research and associate editor and review board member for Oncology Nursing Forum.
Swenson received a PhD in Nursing from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Master of Science in Oncology Nursing at Rush University in Chicago and Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
In addition to her work at Allina Health, Swenson is a preceptor for graduate epidemiology students at the University of Minnesota.
